Sweatpants are the foundation of any complete wardrobe. They occupy that sweet spot between pajamas and hard pants (boo!). The very best sweatpants for women marry comfort and utility and look good doing it. The ideal pair toes many lines: They should be soft, but breathable; cozy, yet presentable.
The reality is, not every pair of sweatpants is going to check every box. That’s why I tested 19 pairs that span a wide range of vibes, styles, and warmth levels. I preferred sweatpants and joggers that felt comfortable during moments of both activity and inactivity. The more versatile, the better.
What are my qualifications? After undergoing two years of intense medical treatment, I wore sweats from couch to appointment to couch again. From then on, I vowed never to clasp a clasp atop my stomach again (unless absolutely necessary). All year round, I wear almost exclusively sweatpants and sweat shorts. I take comfort incredibly seriously, and I hope you will, too.

How I tested the best sweatpants for women
I tested 19 pairs of sweatpants by wearing them both indoors and outdoors, testing them at varying levels of activity (from sedentary couch time to vigorous walking) over several hours. Their prices range from $25 to almost $200, with most pairs landing under $100.
Aside from the sweats I’ve owned for at least a year (like the Old Navy and Alo pairs), I wore them in my air-conditioned apartment to get a sense of how much warmth they provided, and I’ve squatted, lunged, and tree-posed in all of them to get a sense of their flexibility. For the pairs I put through the washer and dryer, I took note whether they pilled, faded, or shrank.
