What’s new in the Apple Watch Ultra 3?

There are several new features on the Apple Watch Ultra 3. Some of these, particularly those related to software, will be incorporated in other Apple Watch models, including some previous generations.

1. Longer battery life: The Apple Watch Ultra 3 has the longest battery life of all Apple Watches released to date. It now features up to 42 hours of battery life with daily use, and can reach 72 hours on Low Power Mode. There’s good news for ultra runners out there, too; the watch can get 20 hours of battery life while still using full GPS and heart rate monitors while in Low Power Mode.
2. Larger display: Apple’s Ultra 3 features the largest display on any Apple Watch, thanks to its wide-angle OLED display. Like the Ultra 2, the display uses always-on refresh tech, so you can constantly see where you are when on the move.
3. Hypertension alert notification: In addition to some watchOS 26 sleep score and fitness updates, the latest Ultra (and Series 11) watches are introducing a new hypertension alert notification, which purports to alert users to potential signs of chronic high blood pressure. The feature is under FDA review and, according to Apple, expected to be cleared this month.
4. 5G cellular: All new Apple Watches, including the Ultra 3, will have 5G capability. This means that users don’t need to worry about dropping calls or being unable to stream music as much as before, with broader access in regions with poor reception.
5. Satellite messaging: For an extra layer of added safety, the Ultra 3 also has two-way satellite communication. This allows wearers to text emergency services and contacts, in addition to sharing their location, even in some off-the-grid areas, as long as they’re within the line of sight of a satellite.
