Nifty 50 opened today’s session with a gap-up at 25,441 versus yesterday’s close of 25,330. But it slipped a little after opening and is currently hovering around 25,400, up 0.3 per cent so far today.
The advance/decline ratio of Nifty 50 stands at 30/20, showing a bullish bias. Wipro (up 1.5 per cent) is the top gainer followed by Infosys (up 1.4 per cent). On the other hand, Bajaj Finance (down 1.3 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (down 0.9 per cent) are the top losers.
All mid- and small-cap indices are in the green like the benchmark index. Among the sectors, barring Nifty Metal (down 0.25 per cent), all other indices are in the green. This shows a broad-based buying.
Nifty IT, up nearly 1 per cent, and Nifty Pharma, up about 0.5 per cent, are the top sectors so far today.
Nifty 50 futures
The September expiry Nifty futures opened today’s session higher at 25,480 versus yesterday’s close of 25,423. It is currently trading at 25,500, up nearly 0.3 per cent.
The chart shows a steady uptrend. Even though there might be a decline from the current level, it is likely to be limited. On the upside, Nifty futures has the potential to touch 25,600 today. A breakout of this can lift the contract to 25,750.
On the other hand, if the contract falls below the intraday support at 25,420, it might extend the decline to 25,330.
Overall, as it stands, Nifty futures might see a minor drop, possibly to 25,420 and then see an uptick to 25,600.
Trading strategy
Buy Nifty futures (Sep) now at 25,500 and on a dip to 25,440. Place a stop-loss at 25,400. Book profits at 25,600.
Supports: 24,750 and 24,650
Resistance: 25,000 and 25,125
