Nifty 50 opened today’s session lower at 24,819 versus yesterday’s close of 24,891. It is currently hovering around 24,800, down about 0.4 per cent.

The advance/decline ratio of Nifty 50 stands at 13/36, showing a bearish bias. Tata Motors (up 2 per cent) is the top gainer followed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) (up 1.9 per cent). On the other hand, Sun pharmaceuticals (down 2.5 per cent) and IndusInd Bank (down 2 per cent) are the top losers.

The mid- and small-cap indices are in the red. Also, barring Nifty Auto (up 0.15 per cent), all other indices are in the red. Nifty Pharma (down 1.7 per cent) and Nifty Healthcare (down 1.4 per cent) are the top losers.

Nifty 50 futures

The September expiry Nifty futures opened today’s session at 24,930 versus yesterday’s close of 24,968. It is currently trading at 24,840, down nearly 0.5 per cent.

The price action shows a strong bearish bias and the chances for further decline are high. From the current level, Nifty futures can drop to 24,750. A breach of this can drag the contract to 24,650.

On the other hand, if the contract rallies, it will face a barrier at 24,900 and 25,000. As long as the resistance at 25,000 holds true, the bias will remain bearish.

Trading strategy

Short Nifty futures (Sep) now at 24,840 and on rise to 24,950. Place stop-loss at 25,050. Book profits at 24,650.

Supports: 24,750 and 24,650
