Yes, I’m very serious. You should get in on the ground floor of collectibles investing with The Savage She-Hulk #1 right now. The current collectibles market value of a near perfect copy of this comic is about $300.
Yes, I know that the Disney+ show starring Tatiana Maslany has not aged well. However, the real-world politics being pushed by anti-woke activists with agendas does not erase the cultural importance of She-Hulk.
Unfortunately, many non-comic book reading fans outright dismiss the character due to sexism, political agendas, and obliviousness. Not liking the show is one thing. Have you ever read a She-Hulk comic? She is a legacy Avengers character in the comic books.
She-Hulk is not a new character. She first made her debut in comic books about 42 years ago. Also, it’s very true that the character was born out of politics. She-Hulk was created in 1979 to protect Marvel from copyright law loopholes after the popularity of the Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno TV show The Incredible Hulk.
Actress Tatiana Maslany might return in 2026’s Avengers Doomsday. Even if she does not, the character might be recast in the 2030s or 2040s. This comic is an affordable investment to have now as a hedge for when its value may go up.
The comic’s value was over $500 before the show and kept its market value for decades. So, before I explain when you should invest in it, I want to explain why you should ignore anti-woke propaganda.
Politics and Comics
Being “woke” means being aware that systemic racism exists. That is it. The term was co-opted by others for various agendas. The term is also misused by comic book fan casuals who don’t understand comic book canon or storylines.
Case in point: there are casual fans who have never read a comic book who actually believe that Black Panther was specifically created by a “woke mob” in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War to personally annoy them. Black Panther made his debut in Fantastic Four #5 in 1966. Black Panther was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, two white Jewish men.
I don’t want to fall down the rabbit hole of politics, but the fact is that comic books reflect the politics of the real world. The X-Men were inspired by the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
There are comic book characters that were created to comment on WW2, like Captain America, The Invaders, Nick Fury, and Sgt. Rock. There are comic book series based on war tales like Weird War Tales and The ‘Nam.
Politics are have always been reflected comic books. So don’t let your politics or take on the current culture wars blind you to an affordable investment opportunity that is staring you in the face.
Case in point – She-Hulk.
The Savage She-Hulk 31
The She-Hulk first made her debut in The Savage She-Hulk #1 comic in November 1979. She-Hulk was created by Stan Lee and legendary artist John Buscema. Jennifer Walters is a lawyer and the cousin of Bruce Banner. After Jennifer suffers an injury she receives an emergency transfusion from Bruce.
She becomes She-Hulk afterward. She-Hulk maintains her intelligence and the strength of the Hulk in a female bodybuilder’s body. And this character was indeed created due to politics – TV politics.
In the 1980s, The Hulk TV show starring David Bixby and Lou Ferrigno was extremely popular. There was no internet. And the Disney MCU was still almost 30 years away.
After the Hulk exploded into popularity on TV and the 1970s and 1980s, Stan Lee was informed by lawyers that anyone could make a female variant of the Hulk. For example, there would be nothing Marvel could do legally if DC Comics decided to publish She-Hulk in 1979 if Marvel did not do it first.
So, Lee created She-Hulk to keep another comic book company from doing it. This is also partially the reason why Spider-Woman was created as well.
The Canonical Comic Book Importance of She-Hulk
Before She-Hulk became a Disney+ streaming show she was always a vital Marvel Comics character. She-Hulk is an Avenger in the comic books. The character would act as an attorney for humans and superheroes while juggling superheroics with her dating life.
In the 1980s, She-Hulk comics were experimental and ahead of its time. The John Byrne -era of She-Hulk comics would feature fourth-wall breaking years before the debut of Deadpool.

The Savage She-Hulk #1 as Collectibles Investment
If you have $500, I recommend that you buy The Savage She-Hulk #1. The character is historically important in Marvel Comics canon. Stan Lee, a man, created the character in 1979, so the wokeness agenda argument does not apply. Also, the character may experience a resurgence of popularity in the next decade when Marvel reboots itself.
A CGC 9.8 copy of this issue is worth just under $300 now, but it was once as high as $500. It has historically maintained value and is great first time investment option.
