The Delhi police busted a fake antacid manufacturing unit operating in north Delhi’s Ibrahimpur and arrested two persons who were producing and packaging counterfeit products, an officer said on Sunday.
The accused were identified as Sandeep Jain, 45, and Jitender alias Chotu, 23, both residents of Ibrahimpur.
After receiving a tip-off from GSK, the authorised manufacturer of ENO, the police raided a rented shop and seized the manufacturing unit producing counterfeit antacid ENO, the officer said.
“The police recovered 91,257 sachets of fake ENO, 80 kg of raw materials used for making the antacid, 13 kg of company printed rolls [sheets printed with branding used for packaging], 54,780 stickers, 2,100 unprepared packets and a machine used for filling and packaging the sachets,” the officer said.
The police said the accused operated the unit and had set up equipment to produce the spurious health product resembling the original brand.
‘Ready for circulation’
“The seized products were ready for large-scale circulation in the market, posing a serious threat to public health,” said the officer. “Both accused are in police custody, and a probe is under way to trace the supply chain,” the officer added.
