Firms turning to AI tools to keep pace with taxman

New Delhi: As India’s tax administration increasingly relies on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital data to detect evasion, flag inconsistencies and issue automated notices, companies are turning to in-house AI-powered tools to stay ahead of regulatory scrutiny, respond to frequent tax notices and prevent tax litigations.

Leading tax firms are launching tailor-made generative AI solutions for tax and regulatory functions, catering not just to large corporations but also to mid-sized and smaller enterprises which are fast, accurate and capable of proactively identifying risks, responding to tax notices and managing litigation before disputes escalate.

“Technology-led enforcement has made tax compliance far less forgiving of errors and companies are looking for solutions that can proactively identify risks, respond to income tax or GST (goods and services tax) notices and prevent litigation, rather than just react to it,” said Siddharth Mehta, partner and tax technology leader at PwC India.
PwC India introduced its generative AI platform, Navigate Tax Hub, in September to help companies file accurate tax returns, respond to notices with data-backed analyses and reduce future litigation exposure.

Earlier this month Deloitte India launched its own AI-based tool, Tax Pragya. “Our newly launched tax insights platform blends deep tax expertise with responsible AI and agentic AI,” said Gokul Chaudhri, president, tax, Deloitte India. “We aim to enable organisations to operate with greater confidence, resilience and strategic tax foresight and build a tech muscle for every tax professional.”

Others are fast catching up with the trend.
