Alphabet (GOOGL, Financials) spin off SandboxAQ has landed a major government contract in Bahrain to strengthen the country’s digital defenses against future cyber threats. The deal will roll out SandboxAQ’s AQtive Guard platform to secure sensitive data across more than 60 government ministries.
Bahraini officials said the initiative targets long-term risks posed by quantum computing, which could one day render current encryption systems obsolete. The project reflects growing global concern over harvest now, decrypt later attacks, in which hackers store encrypted data for future exploitation once quantum capabilities mature.
The deployment of SandboxAQ’s AI driven system is one of the first national scale efforts to address quantum-era cybersecurity risks. Experts say the program demonstrates a proactive shift in government cybersecurity strategy prioritizing early defense and resilience rather than reacting to breaches.
The transaction with Bahrain shows that there is growing worldwide demand for sophisticated, AI based encryption and post quantum protection capabilities, according to SandboxAQ. Analysts think this step shows that governments are getting ready for the next wave of digital danger, even if quantum computing won’t be widely used for a few more years.
