If everything goes according to the mutual understanding between the State Government and the Infosys management, the IT giant’s permanent campus in Visakhapatnam will be established on the Yendada hill along the old stretch of National Highway-16, near the international cricket stadium in Madhurawada.

Final discussions are underway between the government and the company regarding the incentives the government needs to extend, and officials are examining the proposals submitted by the company concerning infrastructure support. It is understood that the government is considering allocating land to the company at a rate of Rs. 0.99 per acre, similar to what was given to IT giants like TCS and Cognizant in the past.

Confirming this to The Hindu on Monday (January 5), a government official said, “Yes, the Infosys team recently visited the city to inspect two suggested locations – Yendada and Paradesipalem. The team expressed more interest in the Yendada site due to its scenic view from various directions. They have requested 20 acres of land. The required government land is available on the Yendada hills (survey number 179). The price and further discussions with the government are yet to be finalised.”

Infosys is currently operating its unit in a rented building in the Rushikonda IT zone area. Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the Infosys unit on October 16, 2023. Now, the company wants to establish its own permanent office. If this materialises, it will significantly boost the Vizag IT sector and create new employment opportunities. This project will also create a boom in the Yendada residential area which is close to the beach.

“The government has also agreed to allocate land to Infosys wherever they want, and an official announcement is likely to be made by the end of this January. This expansion will strengthen Vizag as a major tech hub, with other IT giants like TCS, Cognizant, and Accenture also considering similar moves, as the state is offering significant incentives,” said another government official representing the IT department.

Infosys and its subsidiaries currently operate campuses in nearly 50 countries worldwide. In South India, the company already has major campuses in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and Mysuru in Karnataka, as well as in Hyderabad, Chennai, and Thiruvananthapuram. With the decision to set up a campus in Visakhapatnam, Infosys will now have a presence in all South Indian states.

Currently, only two IT companies – Infosys and Cognizant – are operating from temporary buildings. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is nearing completion of work at its temporary campus in Millennium Towers and will soon begin operations with a seating capacity of approximately 1,200 employees. Cognizant has already inaugurated its temporary campus with a seating capacity for 1,000 employees and has laid the foundation for its permanent campus buildings.
