Police investigate software engineer’s death in Chennai lodge linked to bug repellent fumes

The police are probing the death of a software engineer from Kerala at a private lodge in Choolaimedu, with initial suspicion that suffocation due to bug repellent fumes may have caused the incident.

The deceased was identified as Sree Das Sathyadasan, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, who was working with a private multinational company in Chennai. He had been staying at a private lodge on First Street, Choolaimedu, and was sharing the room with another man, Maheswara Rao.

Police said Sree Das returned to the lodge after work on Wednesday and soon complained of severe breathing difficulty. Maheswara Rao immediately took him to a nearby private hospital, from where he was later shifted to another private hospital in Vadapalani for further treatment. However, he died despite medical intervention.

Investigators suspect that inhalation of fumes from bug repellent tablets may have led to suffocation and caused his death. Following information about the incident, the Choolaimedu police registered a case and have launched an inquiry.
