During the New York Mets’ first game of a doubleheader on Sunday in St. Louis, left fielder Jesse Winker was removed from the game when New York came to the field in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Winker’s last notable action in Sundays’ game came in the field in the third inning when he made a throw home on a sacrifice fly. At the plate, he had two plate appearances, but was not credited with an at-bat, as he walked and hit a sacrifice fly to score a run for New York.
Sunday marked Winker’s first start in the field, after making all 18 of his previous starts as the team’s designated hitter. He played two innings in left field this season, prior to today, in relief.
Winker is slashing .239/.321/.418, good for an above-average .738 OPS, on the season. The Mets have yet to provide an update on his status. New York will end Sunday with the second game of the doubleheader with Winker’s status up in the air.
