Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) is starting to take its AI push into the physical world, with DeepMind teaming up with Agile Robots to bring its models directly into machines.
The idea here is pretty straightforward but important. DeepMind’s multimodal AI, which can handle vision, language, and even touch, will be integrated into Agile Robots’ systems, which already have more than 20,000 units deployed globally. The goal is not just to plug in AI, but to continuously improve it through real world use, collecting data, refining models, and scaling across industries like electronics, automotive, logistics, and data centers.
Agile Robots brings some serious backing to the table as well. The company has raised over $270 million from investors like SoftBank (SFTBY) Vision Fund and Xiaomi, giving it the resources to push deployment at scale. For Google, this builds on earlier robotics efforts and signals a more deliberate move into what it calls physical AI, where software meets hardware in real environments.
