MEMPHIS, Tenn. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears had 13 hits and scored eight times on Tuesday but still dropped the final mid-week game of the season 11-8 to the Memphis Tigers at FedEx Park.
The Tigers (22-30) had 15 hits and scored in five different innings to complete the two-game season sweep of the Bears. Memphis led 2-0 after three innings but UCA answered with four runs in the fourth. After consecutive singles by Keon Moseni and Tanner Leonard, and a walk by Zeb Allen, shortstop Nathan Negre had an RBI single to left field.
Leonard eventually scored on an error before Sam Reynolds knocked in a pair of runs with a double to right center, good for a 4-2 lead.Â
But the Tigers responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame and never trailed again. UCA got two runs back in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk by Allen and a sacrifice fly by Negre, and added two more in the seventh. Three straight base hits by Gavin Alveti, Moseni and Leonard were followed by a two-run single by Allen.
Leonard, a senior second baseman, finished 4 for 5, while Moseni, a junior designated hitter, had three hits. Allen, a sophomore left fielder, had a team-high three RBI, while Negre and center fielder Sam Reynolds added two each.
Justin Fogle had four hits for the Tigers and Chase Nixon had three hits and four RBI.
The Bears close out the ASUN Conference regular season at home beginning Thursday night when they host the North Alabama Lions at 6 p.m. at Bear Stadium. Graduation ceremonies will be held prior to Friday’s 6 p.m. game, and Senior Day Activities will proceed Saturday’s 1 p.m. first pitch.
The Bears will then head to DeLand, Fla., for next week’s 2025 ASUN Championship tournament, which gets underway Tuesday at Stetson’s Melching Field.
