Google looks to MediaTek for next-gen AI chips

Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) seems to be pulling in more partners as it builds out its next generation of AI chips, with reports suggesting MediaTek could play a role in its upcoming TPUs.

The way this is shaping up, Google is still doing the heavy lifting on the core design, especially for the training chip. But it is not doing everything on its own. MediaTek could handle parts like I/O and packaging, while Broadcom is expected to work on the inference side of things. And as usual, TSMC would likely be the one actually manufacturing the chips using its advanced process.

What this really shows is how AI hardware is getting built these days. It is not one company doing it all. It is more like a group effort, with each player focusing on what they do best.

Zoom out, and it fits into a bigger shift. Google is clearly trying to rely more on its own chips instead of depending too much on others, but it still needs a strong network of partners to make that happen.
