Online car part marketplace Ovoko has introduced a redesigned heavy-duty packaging solution developed with Mondi to improve the shipment of oversized automotive components through e-commerce networks.
Ovoko had been looking for packaging that could better protect large and fragile spare parts during transport.
Its earlier packaging was described as costly and not sufficiently protective, which led to damage in transit and extra work for operations teams.
Ovoko packaging project manager Agnius Skudutis said: โWe needed packaging that was simple to assemble, cost-effective and tough enough to deliver a high level of protection.
โAs an e-commerce business with a wide variety of product sizes, we needed a packaging partner capable of packing everything โ from small components to large automotive parts. Mondi listened carefully to our needs and proposed a solution that allowed us to reduce packaging costs and improve product protection.โ
Mondi adapted an existing heavy-duty packaging design for e-commerce use, drawing on its experience in automotive packaging.
The packaging was shaped to fit the dimensions of a car bumper more closely, removing unused space and cutting the amount of material required.
Following testing under real shipping conditions, the design was approved, and a first trial order was supplied within two weeks.
According to Mondi, the revised packaging reduced unit packaging costs by up to 42% through more efficient material use and the removal of unnecessary space.
The company also said it improved protection for goods in transit, reduced the number of damaged items and returns, and made packing faster and simpler.
The project was tested in Mondiโs ISTA-certified laboratory at its ThinkBOX e-commerce innovation hub in Budweis, Czechia.
Mondi Group e-commerce sales manager Dawid Galusiลski commented: โIn e-commerce, it is not only the speed of delivery that matters, but the safety of the product throughout the logistics chain. For large and demanding items such as car bumpers, well-designed packaging ensures the product reaches the customer in perfect condition and helps build lasting customer trust.โ
Earlier this month, Dreco redesigned its powder detergent packaging with Mondi to include 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic.
“Mondi redesigns packaging for Ovoko car parts shipments” was originally created and published by Packaging Gateway, a GlobalData owned brand.
