Blackstone (BX, Financials) announced a joint venture with Google to launch a U.S.-based artificial intelligence cloud business backed by a $5 billion commitment.

The new company will offer data center capacity, operations, networking and access to Google Cloud’s Tensor Processing Units, known as TPUs, as a compute-as-a-service platform.

The deal comes as demand for AI infrastructure continues to rise, with companies racing to secure enough computing power to train and run advanced models. Google’s TPUs are designed for machine learning workloads and compete with other AI chip systems used across the cloud market.

For Blackstone, the venture expands its exposure to digital infrastructure at a time when data centers have become a major investment theme. For Google, the partnership could help broaden access to its AI hardware and cloud ecosystem.

Investors will likely watch how quickly the platform can scale and whether it can compete with other AI infrastructure providers.
