European Union antitrust regulators will decide by February 10 whether to approve Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOGL, Financials) planned $32 billion acquisition of cybersecurity firm Wiz, according to a filing on the European Commission’s website.
The sale, which was announced in March of last year, is Alphabet’s biggest purchase ever. The company is spending more on cybersecurity to improve its cloud computing business. The goal of the effort is to close the gap with competitors Amazon and Microsoft in the business cloud sector.
The European Commission, which is in charge of competition in the EU, may either accept the contract as is, ask for changes, or start a full investigation if there are concerns about competition. U.S. officials gave the deal the go light in November 2025.
In both the US and Europe, tech mergers are getting more attention because many are worried that big tech companies may use acquisitions to gain more market power. If Brussels rules in Alphabet’s favor, the company will be able to add Wiz’s cloud security features to Google Cloud’s business products more swiftly.
