Apple Hires Uber’s Asia-Pacific Government Relations Chief

(Bloomberg) — Apple Inc. has hired Uber Technologies Inc.’s head of public policy and government relations for Asia-Pacific as it looks to revamp its supply chains in the region.

Mike Orgill took up his new role with the iPhone maker this week, according to people familiar with the matter. Neither Orgill, Apple nor Uber immediately responded to requests for comment.

Asia is a key region for the Cupertino, California-based company, which has been diversifying supply chains away from China and has been increasingly making devices in India. Vietnam and Indonesia are also important markets due to their large populations and potential as manufacturing bases.

Last year, Apple reorganized its global affairs division to adjust the management of the government teams for Europe, India, China and other parts of Asia.

Before joining Uber in Singapore in 2021, Orgill spent seven years at Airbnb Inc., his LinkedIn profile showed. Before that he worked at Alphabet Inc.’s Google. He is a graduate of Stanford University.
