Brooklinen Washed European Linen Sheets Review 2025

Date:

He’s hot, she’s cold is a tale as old as time. Finding the best sheets can feel like a daunting task; it becomes more challenging when you’re sharing a bed. While most linen sheets cater to hot sleepers, Brooklinen recently upgraded its Washed European Linen Sheets, and couples who are tired of arguing over bedding should really consider giving them a try. In the past, I tested Brooklinen’s original linen sheets and loved them. The revamp has somehow made them even better. They’re now made with certified 100% European Flax and have improved durability while feeling softer and smoother than the original version. Plus, they have an extended color selection.

Our body temperature plays a crucial role in how well we sleep. As many of us can attest, nothing keeps you awake like sweating in your sheets — or shivering underneath them. Brooklinen’s Washed European linen manages to be both temperature-regulating and soft, earning the coveted top spot in our guide to the best linen sheets.

About Brooklinen

Brooklinen crafts bedding essentials made with quality materials and offers a 365-day happiness guarantee.

Brooklinen

Launched in 2014, Brooklinen has consistently been dubbed “the internet’s favorite sheets.” While that could very well be due to its aesthetically pleasing Instagram ads, the brand has racked up tons of love for its quality materials, speedy delivery, frequent sales, and 365-day happiness guarantee.

Our editors are big fans of many of Brooklinen’s bedding items, from its sateen sheets — one even went so far as to call them the best purchase they ever made. We’ve also tried and loved their luxurious (but pricey) Heathered Cashmere Sheets and fluffy down pillows.

Brooklinen’s Washed European Linen is made in Portugal of 100% certified European Flax and has a relaxed, lived-in look.

These sheets are made of 100% certified European Flax, which is constructed in Portugal. Before they’re made into sheets, the fabric is washed, which softens it and gives it that lived-in look.

The biggest change Brooklinen has made to its linen sheets is their weight and density. While the last version had a 145 GSM (grams per square meter), their latest iteration is 155 GSM. The higher the GSM, the thicker and more durable the fabric.

Brooklinen’s new Washed European Linen Sheets are thicker, and more durable than the original design. The original light pink set is more sheer and you can actually see the stripes through the current.

Brooklinen offers eight solid-color and eight striped or plaid design options. The colors shift depending on the season and also occasionally sell out. The brand partnered with Brooklyn-based designer Caroline Z. Hurley to create limited-edition stripes, too.

Sadly, Brooklinen doesn’t make sheets for twin-size beds. It’s linen set is only available in full, queen, king, or California king. Brooklinen also offers the linen fabric as a duvet cover, and in bedding sets.

Our review of Brooklinen Washed European Linen Sheets

Brooklinen’s Washed European Linen Sheets get softer with each wash.

Shannon Ullman/Business Insider

Linen sheets are known for being breathable and moisture-wicking, making them a great option for hot sleepers like my husband. I, however, sleep cold and prefer the softer, warmer texture of cotton or sateen fabric. Brooklinen’s newly upgraded Washed European Linen Sheets promised a lived-in feel that only got softer with each wash, so we decided to give them a shot.

The first thing that struck me about these sheets was the color choices. I’m a sucker for stripes, so I had a hard time picking from the 16 different options.

The Brooklinen Sheets ship quickly and arrived with a cardboard sleeve and in plastic. There is no fabric dust bag.

The Brooklinen sheets were delivered quickly and felt soft to the touch immediately upon opening. I had never slept on linen sheets prior, but these were nothing like the scratchy, stiff fabric I had imagined. They were actually quite smooth and breathable, like a luxurious version of your favorite worn-in T-shirt.

Though these sheets were definitely on the lighter side, compared to a flannel or heavier cotton, they had a nice weight to them that felt durable and strong. Something that I was able to confirm after a few washes. Pills and nags were nonexistent until about the seventh wash, and even then, they were so minor, I barely registered them.

The sheets are airy and temperature-regulating — I was never too hot or too cold, I was just right.

Jaclyn Turner/Business Insider

I’m also happy to report that Brooklinen’s linen sheets held up to the material’s breathable reputation. They never felt cold, per se, but they did feel airy, something that helped keep my husband (who runs hot) and me (who runs cold) comfortable at the same time. If you want cooling sheets, these may not actively cool you, but they will keep you comfortable.

Like other linen sheets, I could never quite get a “finished” look when I made my bed. Wrinkles and creases were inevitable, but I actually didn’t mind them as they added to the relaxed and lived-in vibe of the sheets.

The fitted sheet has the long and short side labels that Brooklinen has become known for that take the guesswork out of making the bed.

The only other issue I had was with the size of the fitted sheets. We have a decently thick mattress topper on our queen-sized bed, and the 15-inch pockets just barely cover it all. We’ve had to get inventive with sheet clips and suspenders to keep it from riding up. It’s not a dealbreaker, but definitely something to be aware of.

Overall, I highly recommend Brooklinen’s linen sheets for anyone, especially couples with differing temperature preferences, looking to upgrade their bedding game. But at over $300 a set, I advise waiting for a sale, as I’ve seen this sheet set discounted for as much as 30% off.

Care requirements

Thankfully, these linen sheets are machine washable and can be tossed in with like colors. Brooklinen recommends washing them in cold water and tumble drying them on a low setting.

While I’ve had no bleeding or excessive pilling after washing my sheets, I do wish I had washed them before our first night sleeping in them, as there were a lot of loose fibers that came off during the first wash. Linen is known to soften up overtime as you wash them, which can help with the initial texture.

365-day trial

Brooklinen offers a 365-day return policy and an additional yearlong extended warranty coverage on all its sheet sets. If you decide to return the sheets within a year, you will be subject to a $9.95 return fee.

What are your alternatives?

Quince’s linen sheet set is available in over 30 colors and cost under $200, making it one of the most affordable linen options on the market.

Shannon Ullman/Business Insider

At $350, these are definitely not the most affordable sheets out there. But that’s typically with linen, which tends to run on the pricier side. You can find cheaper sheet options if you opt for cotton or sateen like Brooklinen’s Classic Percale Sheets, which ring in at $150.

If you’re set on linen, Quince’s Linen Sheet Set costs under $200, comes in over 30 colors and stripes, and is also made of garment washed European Flax for initial softness. I don’t find them as durable, and they sleep a bit warm. For true traditional linen, I was impressed with Cultiver’s Linen Sheet Set, which has a slightly heftier 165 GSM; they’re not immediately soft like Brooklinen, but develop their softness over time and have a generous fit. They’re an investment, though, costing nearly $500.

The bottom line

If you dream of airy, lightweight bedding that is soft, long-lasting, and timeless, Brooklinen’s linen may be your holy grail bedding.

Jaclyn Turner/Business Insider

Brooklinen’s linen sheets are definitely a splurge, but they’re worth it if you dream of airy bedding that’s as soft as it is strong. They turned this cotton-loving skeptic into a linen convert, and stopped my husband from sweating through his sleep — that’s a win-win in my book.
