Buoyed by strong order book, BHEL in Tiruchi adds more than 100 new vendors

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), a premier Central Public Sector Enterprise, has added 100 new vendors this financial year to meet its commitment on delivering high pressure boilers to various State-owned power corporations and private entities for their thermal power plants.

According to sources, the company has about 39 boilers in its order book. Most of the orders were for boilers with an installed capacity of 800 MW. The total value of orders received by BHEL for boilers to erect thermal power plants and others has crossed ₹1.80 lakh crore.

Since the company started receiving high profile orders from 2024 and 2025, it began looking for small, micro and medium scale vendors to manufacture ancillary parts of boilers so as to fulfil its order commitment to various companies within the stipulated time. The company has brought most of its machines and workforce to manufacture boilers.

However, according to sources, the BHEL depends upon bringing more ancillary units to expedite the production of various components of the boilers. Hence, it took a number of steps to increase the number of vendors.

Reliable sources told The Hindu that the BHEL had roped in more than 100 vendors since April 2025 for manufacturing boiler components. They were added to the list based on various parameters. With the addition of new vendors, their total has crossed 200. Many of them have been given heavy orders.

The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) had been roped in to facilitate loans to the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Chennai, who have been listed as vendors of the BHEL for producing boiler components. More steps were taken to increase the vendors list to outsource various job works in 2026-27.
