Our new PFAdvice Comics and Assets YouTube channel is live and we want you to be a part of it! My name is Allen Francis, some people call me Ace. I’m a full-time freelance writer and lifelong comic book fan. I’ve been reading comics for over 40+ years. I was reading Iron Man comics long before the MCU character became a household name. I make new videos every week on the PFAdvice YouTube channel based on my comic book knowledge, current comic book entertainment news and events, comic collectibles advice, and more. We want you to check out the PFAdvice YouTube channel and become part of our growing movement.

I review modern and older, forgotten comic books on the PFAdvice YouTube channel. You’ll find honest reviews of the latest comic book films. I also talk about the best comic book protection supplies to use and comic book collectibles and investments.

Additionally, I make videos that help bridge the gap between modern comic books, people who love comic book media but don’t read comics, and old-school comic book fans like myself, who religiously read comic books.

My PFAdvice YouTube channel reviews and commentary are unfiltered, extremely opinionated, and made to inspire discourse, not fuel social media toxicity. For example, I hate the Thunderbolts* film. I think the new Superman film will make money, but it will be a critical bomb.

Modern comic books, especially from Marvel, are reflections of the films and adapted media, and the art of comic book storytelling is slowly being lost. I think modern comic books are being written by people who don’t like comic books, much less read them.

These POVs need to be discussed more; that is what I aim to do with this channel. Let me explain why.

The PFAdvice YouTube Channel is For All Fans of Comics Media

The PFAdvice YouTube channel aims to provide entertaining comic book entertainment and advice for all fans of comic book media. I use my comic book fan experience to make videos that will inform, entertain, and give you something to think about. You may not agree with everything I say, and that is fine. As long as there is respectful commentary discourse, I know we will both learn something.

The problem with most comic book reviews and entertainment channels is that people are just arguing to argue. No one is learning anything. Most people on social media respond to negative videos. The PFAdvice YouTube channel is never negative for its own sake, even if some of my commentary triggers negative responses. As long as we are all engaging respectfully and learning something, I think it is worth it.

Comic book reviews and entertainment channels are far too toxic on YouTube. Many channels wait for toxic social media fandom themes to emerge to blankly agree or contrarily take the other side. Other channels create hive-mind fandoms who pick sides in toxic culture wars, argue, and never add anything vital to the discourse.

Worse, comic book fans now live in an age where most modern comic book fans don’t read comic books. The majority of fans who love comic book films, streaming shows, cartoons, anime, video games, and other adaptations never read comic books. These modern comic book fans now engage in useless online social media debates with older comic book fans who can’t relate.

My point is that when I was a kid, comic book fans would debate endlessly about whether the Hulk could beat Superman in a fight. Modern social media is now so toxic, comic book fans only divide themselves for its own sake to pick a side instead of enjoying the art form. Modern and old-school comic book fans can learn from each other.

The PFAdvice YouTube channel wants to celebrate with it means to be a comic book fan while encouraging the discourse of opposing views. Here two examples of my videos.

Thunderbolts* is a Sub-Mediocre Mess of a Film

I don’t follow trends and I don’t do the social media echo-chamber, hive-mind thing; Thunderbolts* is a disappointing and sub-mediocre film. The MCU stopped connecting their characters after 2019’s Endgame; they were once the masters of making us care about characters we would watch over the years.

I was reading Thunderbolts comic books in 1997 before the internet was publicly available to most people. The film only has loose connections to the comic, about villains and antiheroes doing heroic things, and it is a waste. We have not seen many of these characters for years; Ghost was last seen in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, and now we have to accept them as the New Avengers.

There is no real plot, no real villain, no character arc, and I just don’t care about these characters. Thunderbolts* has made $330 million and is a financial flop. A Minecraft Movie has made $930 million, more money than Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* combined!

You can’t have it both ways – if Thunderbolts made a billion, then it would be critic-proof. This film has resonance with MCU fans yearning for the glory days of Phase 1, but doesn’t have much else going for it. Many fans in the comments did not agree with me, see for yourself.

The Superman Trailer is Mediocre, Ordinary, and Uninspiring

I don’t have high hopes for this film. I am sure it will make money. But I think it will be a critical failure. There are too many characters in this film. I’m sure the costume is so rustic looking because Ma Kent made it. Still, the costume looks awful and cheap. The marketing emphasizes Krypto and the Fortress of Solitude robots much more than Superman.

Superman seems like a 12th billing supporting character in his own film. The hype for this new film has been uneven. The December 2024 teaser trailer had 24 million views on the DC Studios YouTube channel in 24 hours. The latest full trailer had 10 million views in 24 hours. It took 22 hours before the views reached 22 million.

I think James Gunn is not the right fit to tell a Superman story. That trailer is mediocre, ordinary, and does not inspire hype. It does not show a hint of what this film is about – believe or not, trailers are supposed to drop breadcrumb hints about the story. James Gunn has made Superman look ordinary, boring, and non-inspiring, which is not easy to do. Not looking forward to this.

Give the PFAdvice YouTube Channel a Chance and I’ll Give You Something to Think About

There are many comic book review channels, but most of them are doing and saying the same things. Whether you don’t read comics or are a hardcore comics fan, I want to share with you my 40+ years of comic fandom experince. I want to share my raw commentary and critiques of current comic book news and events.

Mostly, I want my comic book film reviews and commentary to inspire you to think differently and learn something, not just pick a toxic side in online fandom. The art form of 20th century comic book making is being slowly lost in the digital age and the era of billion-dollar comic book films and indifference toxic fans. Maybe that is progress.

I see it as my job to show you what you are missing from the past and make sense of where comic book entertainment is going in the future. Check out the PFAdvice YouTube channel today.
