The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite indices witnessed a strong bounce on Monday.
After witnessing a strong sell-off on Friday, the indices began the week on a positive note and recovered sharply. The Dow Jones and S&P 500 were up 1.29 and 1.56 per cent respectively.
The NASDAQ Composite index surged 2.21 per cent. It is now important for the benchmark indices to get a strong follow-through rise from here. Else they will still be in danger of falling back again.
Dow Jones (46,067.58)
The Dow Jones has an important resistance at 46,150 and 46,250 which can be tested today. However, a decisive break above 46,250 is needed to boost the bullish momentum. Only then will the doors open for a rise to 46,400-46,500 again.
Support is in the 46,000-45,900 region. Failure to rise above 46,250 will keep the index under pressure to break this support. Such a break can trigger a fresh fall to 45,700-45,500 initially. It will also continue to keep the index under pressure to see 45,000 on the downside in the coming days.
Supports: 46,000, 45,900
Resistances: 46,150, 46,250
S&P 500 (6,654.71)
The immediate outlook is unclear for the S&P 500. The index has support in the 6,640-6,630 region. Resistance is in the 6,670-6,680 region. Broadly, 6,630-6,680 can be the trading range for the day. A breakout on either side of 6,630-6,680 will determine the next move.
A break above 6,680 will be bullish to see a rise to 6,700-6,710. On the other hand, a break below 6,630 can drag it down to 6,600-6,585.
Supports: 6,630, 6,600
Resistances: 6,680, 6700
NASDAQ Composite (22,694.61)
The NASDAQ Composite index has strong resistances at 22,725 and 22,780. Failure to breach 22,780 can take the index down to 22,570 today. A break below 22,570 will then increase the selling pressure and drag it down to 22,400.
The NASDAQ Composite index has to break 22,780 and then rise past 22,800 subsequently in order to ease the downside pressure. Only then the doors will open for a rise to 23,000.
Supports: 22,570, 22,400
Resistances: 22,725, 22,780
