Ekki Homa, a joint venture of Coimbatore-based Ekki Group and Germany’s Homa Pumpenfabrik, has launched the Linus range of sewage pumps in the Indian market.

Kanishka Arumugam, co-chief executive officer of Ekki Homa, told the media on Thursday that 75 dealers would be appointed in three years across the country and service centres would be set up to cater to the sewage pump segment. The eight-year-old joint venture’s production capacity would make pumps to cater primarily to the Indian market of German technology and also supply pumps to Germany.

The Homa group recently invested over $30 million in expansion initiatives, including strengthening the Indian joint venture. Ekki was looking at growth through international partnerships and collaborations, encouraged by the Ekki Homa venture, he added.

According to NK Ranganath, Chief Advisor of Ekki Homa, the pumps would be in the mid-premium segment, and the plant’s current capacity was to make 30,000 pumps annually, with a target of 3% to 3.5% market share. The production capacity could be doubled depending on the demand.

Hans Hoffmann, CEO of Homa, said the company was looking at a long-term relationship with Ekki. It had a plant in Malaysia, and that is was catering to the Asia Pacific market.
