Epson, a global player in digital technologies for printing and projection, and a part of Japan-based Seiko Epson Corporation, has opened its first ink tank printer manufacturing facility in India, in Chennai, on Friday (July 3, 2025.)

The Chennai facility, which came up at Sriperumbudur with the help of Epson’s manufacturing partner, RIKUN, is scheduled to commence operations in October 2025. The new factory can build 2,000 printers a month.

“To start with, the facility would focus on the production of Epson’s flagship EcoTank printers, which have redefined the printing landscape by offering a high-capacity, cartridge-free printing solution that is cost-effective and which reduces the impact on the environment,” Epson said.

“To date, the company has sold more than eight million EcoTank printers in India, contributing to a global total of more than 100 million EcoTank printers since its launch a decade ago,” it claimed.

At the inaugural, Junkichi Yoshida, Global President of Seiko Epson Corporation, said, “This is a historic occasion for Epson. India is crucial to our growth and offers immense opportunity for innovation and leadership, with its fast-growing economy, youthful population and digital progress.”

Mr. Yoshida emphasised that this move aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and reflects Epson’s broader objective to localise production, enhance supply chain agility, and contribute meaningfully to India’s economic development.

“Epson is not just a printing company — we are a technology company with deep expertise in precision engineering, imaging, and robotics. We strive to build a better future through compact, precise and energy-efficient solutions,’‘ Mr. Yoshida further said.

Samba Moorthy, president of Epson India, said the new facility was a milestone in Epson India’s journey and a clear demonstration of the company’s long-term commitment to growth and innovation.

“By manufacturing locally, we are strengthening our ability to serve Indian consumers with greater agility and contributing to the larger goal of building a self-reliant, sustainable manufacturing ecosystem in India,’‘ Mr. Moorthy added.

Epson has been catering to the Indian market for five decades. Until now, it has depended on imports from its factories in the Asia Pacific region and other regions. The Chennai manufacturing facility will exclusively cater to the Indian market.
