In a step towards reducing dietary risks and hypertension in Karnataka, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), in collaboration with NGOs Vision for Social Development (VSD) and Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL), on Thursday (October 10, 2025) launched a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to steer the State’s salt reduction initiative.

This expert group aims to institutionalise evidence-based strategies to reduce sodium intake and prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the State, strengthening Karnataka’s public health response to lifestyle-related disorders.

Bhagavan. B.C., Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS, said, “As part of this commitment, RGUHS is proud to anchor this pioneering initiative that brings together science, policy, and community action. Through research, training, and institutional collaborations, we aim to make Karnataka a model for dietary risk reduction and healthier food systems,” he said.

Vishal Rao U.S., member of the High-Power Committee, Government of Karnataka, emphasised the critical link between dietary habits and long-term health outcomes. He noted, “Policy transformation begins with awareness and evidence. By embedding salt reduction and healthier dietary practices into our existing health and education frameworks, we are paving the way for a future where prevention becomes the standard approach rather than an afterthought. This initiative reflects our collective commitment to creating a healthier Karnataka through informed policy, education, and behavioural change.”
