Alphabet (GOOG, Financials) is making a clear push to bring AI video tools to a wider audience with the launch of Veo 3.1 Lite, its most cost-effective video generation model to date.

The new model is designed to lower the barrier for developers building high-volume video applications. According to Google, Veo 3.1 Lite delivers similar speed to its existing model but at less than half the cost, giving developers more flexibility depending on their needs and budgets.

Alongside the launch, Google said it will also cut prices for its Veo 3.1 Fast model starting April 7, reinforcing its strategy to drive broader adoption through more accessible pricing.

Veo 3.1 Lite supports both text-to-video and image-to-video generation, with options for different formats and resolutions, including 720p and 1080p. The model is already being rolled out and is available through Google’s Gemini API and AI Studio platforms.

The timing is notable as competition in AI video intensifies. OpenAI recently signaled a shift away from its Sora video tool, potentially creating an opening for rivals.

For investors, the focus will be on whether lower pricing can accelerate usage and help Google strengthen its position in the fast-evolving AI ecosystem.
