GoTo Foods is testing drone delivery services

Date:

GoTo Foods announced Monday that the portfolio company began testing drone delivery for the first time in June, in partnership with Alphabet-owned drone company, Wing, and DoorDash.

Participating brands include Auntie Anne’s, Jamba, McAlister’s Deli, and Schlotzsky’s, and the new delivery channel is now live in three Texas markets in Frisco, Fort Worth, and Plano.

“Drone delivery is one way that GoTo Foods is unlocking innovation with purpose, to expand accessibility and drive frequency,” Kieran Donahue, chief commercial officer at GoTo Foods, said in a statement. “Today’s consumer expects brands to meet them where they are, on their terms, and that’s exactly why we’re modernizing through convenience and personalized experiences.”

Customers living within a four-mile radius of a participating Auntie Anne’s (Stonebriar Center in Frisco, Texas and Hulen Mall in Fort Worth, Texas); Jamba (Hulen Mall in Fort Worth); McAlister’s Deli, and Schlotzsky’s (brick-and-mortar locations in Plano, Texas) might receive their DoorDash order via drone, with orders typically arriving within minutes of being placed.

“We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with GoTo Foods and help bring their iconic mall favorites directly to their customers’ doors,” Harrison Shih, head of the DoorDash drone program, said in a statement. “Drone delivery lets us recreate the magic of the in-store experience at home with the unmatched speed and convenience of autonomous technology.”

Over the past several years, multiple restaurant companies have begun testing drone delivery capabilities, including El Pollo Loco with Flytrex in 2021, Jersey Mike’s with Flytrex in 2022, Chick-fil-A in 2023, and, most recently, Wendy’s with Wing last year.
