Injustice to Telangana in budgetary allocations despite its potential, says Finance Minister Bhatti

The Telangana Government has expressed its thorough dissatisfaction over the Central Government ignoring Telangana’s repeated requests seeking its assistance for the State’s growth in Union Budget 2026-27 allocations.

The total outlay of the Central Government’s budget presented in the Parliament on Sunday (February 1, 2026) is to the tune of ₹45.48 lakh crore, but Telangana was meted out injustice as its name did not figure in allocations made for key sectors. “Given the massive outlay, we have expected announcements in favour of Telangana. But the State’s interests were cold shouldered despite repeated representations submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Ministers,” Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said.

The State expected allocations for Musi Rejuvenation project, development proposed in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area and Metro rail, but nothing had come about. The Centre had announced Biopharma Shakti scheme with an outlay of ₹10,000 crore and Telangana’s name was not considered in spite of its ecosystem in the form of Genome Valley and its contributions in vaccine manufacturing. The same was the case with electronic component manufacturing wherein the State did not receive any support from the Centre.

The State did not find mention in the projects proposed like chemical parks, affordable spots goods manufacturing and orange economy as well as promotion of regional medical value hubs. Besides being ignored in inland waterways project, the project for exploration of rare earth minerals did not make a mention of the State in spite of traces of rare earths identified in the Singareni coal belt. “It is a sort of embarrassment to note that Telangana’s name did not figure in the initiatives proposed for semi-conductor development,” he said.

The development came at a time when the State competed at the global level to become a $3 trillion economy and contribute a significant share in the Viksit Bharat vision of the Centre. The Government had also not considered the State’s request to allow fiscal deficit at 4% so as to enable the State to carry out its developmental agenda. “The Central Government has however kept the limit of fiscal deficit at 4.3% for itself,” he said.

Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka asked the MPs from Telangana, cutting across political lines, to meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and represent to them the need to undo the injustice meted out to the State. “We are requesting out MPs to meet the Prime Minister and Finance Minister irrespective of political affiliations and seek our due,” he said.
