AMES — Playing on the big stage again, the Pella girls soccer team was back up at the state tournament on Tuesday as the seventh-seeded Lady Dutch were set to battle against Little Hawkeye Conference foe, and second-seeded, Dallas Center-Grimes. The Lied Recreation Fields in Ames were the site for the Class 2A quarterfinal matchup and the girls battled it out in a consistent downpour of rain throughout the contest which saw DCG advance with a 5-0 shutout.
The Mustangs won the regular season meeting 2-0 and the Lady Dutch were hopeful to change their fortune this time around. Pella got off to a fairly solid start with a couple of solid chances highlighted by Claire Smock’s shot squeaking through the DCG keeper’s legs before she would turn and dive on the ball before it crossed the goal line.
