Louie Vito falls short of Finals at 2026 Winter Olympics – Peak of Ohio

Louie Vito made history on the Olympic halfpipe stage, becoming the oldest snowboarder ever to compete in the event at 37 years old. Representing Italy in his third Olympic appearance, the Bellefontaine native delivered a clean first run before a fall on the opening trick of his second attempt prevented him from improving his score, and led him to fall short of qualifying for the finals on Friday.

Vito posted a 58.75 on Run 1, putting together a smooth and controlled performance. Needing a bigger score to climb into the top 12 and qualify for the final, he came out aggressive in Run 2 but fell on his first trick. With no improvement recorded, his first score stood, placing him 18th overall.

While he did not advance, Vito’s appearance alone was historic, as the 37-year-old continues to compete at the highest level in a sport that is increasingly dominated by riders in their teens and early 20s.
