Delhi has recorded more malaria cases so far this year than in the corresponding period of 2024, according to the latest Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) report. A total of 333 cases were recorded across the city till September 20. During the same period last year, 309 cases were reported.
The civic agency also noted a steady increase in dengue cases, with 685 reported across Delhi. However, the number is lower than the figure for the same period last year, as per MCD data. Of these, 52 were from MCD zones, 12 from Delhi Cantonment, and one each from the Railways and NDMC.
MCD to deploy drones
To step up its fight against vector-borne diseases, the MCD will deploy drones to spray insecticide over identified mosquito breeding sites that are inaccessible to municipal workers.
Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav inaugurated one such drone in Narela on Monday.
“The drone, equipped with a 10-litre tank, can spray insecticide over a two-kilometre area in just seven minutes,” Mr. Yadav said at the launch.
