Markel Collaborates With Upfort on US Cyber; Business Risk Partners Launches SML Program

Markel announced a new collaboration with Upfort to provide eligible U.S. cyber policyholders with an expanded suite of tools to help them safeguard their businesses and help reduce the risk of cyberattacks.

Upfort Shield, a multi-layer cyber defense platform, is now available to Markel eligible cyber policyholders. It provides AI-powered, automated protection against common cyber threats. Policyholders can also gain access to an easy-to-deploy endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution that uses behavioral analytics to help reduce the chance of a breach. Service availability and pricing may vary.

“This collaboration aligns with Markel’s long-term cyber strategy to provide innovative insurance solutions for middle-market businesses,” said Raphael Da Costa, senior director, U.S. cyber and tech at Markel. “It allows us to broaden our appetite, helping our policyholders strengthen their risk prevention, and position ourselves to deliver customized cyber coverage as the market continues to mature.”

With capabilities ranging from advanced email protection to continuous monitoring and employee training, Upfort equips businesses with employee training, EDR and practical, easy-to-use tools that help strengthen resilience while allowing them to stay focused on running and growing their operations.

Business Risk Partners Launches SML Program with US-Based Capacity

Business Risk Partners (BRP) announced the launch of a new Sexual Misconduct & Molestation Liability (SML) program designed to meet growing demand for dedicated, monoline coverage backed by domestic carrier capacity.

The program offers up to $5 million in capacity, and coverage is available on both a primary and excess basis for a wide range of classes, including healthcare, education, and religious organizations.

Sexual misconduct allegations continue to present significant safety, reputational and financial risks for organizations across a broad range of industries. While many insureds rely on General Liability policies for protection, SML coverage is frequently sub-limited, restricted, or excluded. BRP said its program addresses these gaps with a purpose-built solution supported by specialized underwriting and claims expertise.

“We’ve written SML for more than a decade and have seen the demand for monoline abuse coverage accelerate across the market,” said Lisa Doherty, president and chief executive officer at Business Risk Partners. “Brokers want solutions that are disciplined, responsive, and easy to work with. This program gives our wholesale partners a strong, domestic option that delivers speed and stability, adding a competitive offering as these risks continue to grow more complex.”

Backed by carrier capacity rated “A-” by AM Best, this program provides brokers with a reliable domestic alternative in a market often dominated by overseas placements. In addition to strong policy terms, complimentary prevention and crisis response services are offered through ePlace Solutions.
