New Zealand Rugby agreed a sponsorship deal with Gallagher insurance that will give the US-based insurance brokerage naming rights on the playing kit of the All Blacks rugby team.
Gallagher’s brand will appear on training and match-day shorts of the All Blacks as well as the national women’s side the Black Ferns, the Maori All Blacks and the men’s and women’s seven-a-side teams, New Zealand Rugby said Wednesday in Wellington. No commercial terms for the multi-year deal were disclosed.
New Zealand Rugby has been hunting for a replacement to Ineos Group after that company abruptly ended a six-year kit sponsorship agreement after three years. Ineos — owned by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe — failed to pay the first installment of the 2025 fee, triggering legal action from New Zealand Rugby and effectively terminating the arrangement.
Gallagher is a unit of Rolling Meadows, Illinois-based Arthur J Gallagher & Co, and is extensively involved in sports sponsorship and partnerships across baseball, basketball and American football, according to its website. It is naming rights partner for England’s premier club rugby competition.
“This is a partnership that reflects the scale, ambition and passion for rugby both our organizations have,” said Mark Robinson, CEO of New Zealand Rugby. “We couldn’t be more excited to align with Gallagher Insurance, who already have deep expertise in elite sport, along with a key business focus in New Zealand and globally. This partnership helps solidify where we’re heading, not just with our teams on field, but as a sporting brand off the field too.”
As part of the agreement, Gallagher will become the jersey sponsor for New Zealand rugby referees across all domestic competitions. High-profile All Black and two-time World Rugby Player of the Year Beauden Barrett has been signed as a Gallagher global ambassador.
