The Nifty Bank index began today’s session slightly lower at 56,599 versus yesterday’s close of 56,625. It is now at 56,500, down 0.20 per cent so far today.
The advances/ declines ratio stands at 3/9 showing a bearish bias. Federal Bank (up1.2 per cent), AU Small Finance Bank (up 0.2 per cent) and HDFC Bank (up 0.15 per cent) have gained on the Nifty Bank index today.
On the other hand, Canara Bank (down 1.4 per cent) and Bank of Baroda ( down 1.1 per cent) are the top losers.
While the Nifty PSU Bank index has lost nearly 1 per cent, the Nifty Private Bank index is down about 0.3 per cent. Therefore, the public sector banks are facing greater selling pressure than their private peers.
Overall, both private and public sector banks are under pressure, leading to a decline in the Nifty Bank index and, thus, in Nifty Bank futures too. However, this might not reverse the prevailing uptrend.
Nifty Bank futures
Even though the Nifty index began today’s session lower, the October futures of the index opened on the front foot. It opened higher at 56,891 versus Monday’s close of 56,856. However, the contract fell after opening and is currently trading at 56,760, down 0.2 per cent.
The chart shows that the broader trend is bullish, but there are bearish indications at the moment. That said, Nifty Bank futures is now hovering around a support at 56,760.
If the contract rebounds on the back of the nearby base, it can rally to 57,200 today. A breach of this can lift Nifty Bank futures to 57,500.
On the other hand, if the support at 56,760 is taken down, the contract can decline further, possibly to 56,550 and 56,440, notable support levels.
Overall, considering the above factors, the probability of an uptick is slightly higher at the current market price.
Trade strategy
Traders can buy Nifty Bank futures (October) now at 56,760. Target and stop-loss for intraday can be 57,200 and 56,530 respectively.

Resistances: 57,200 and 57,500
