The National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked medical colleges to participate in a survey being conducted by the Supreme Court-appointed National Task Force (NTF) to address mental health concerns of students and to prevent suicides in higher educational institutions.

The website – ntf.education.gov.in – will serve as a central platform to gather different perspectives from college students, parents, members of the faculty, mental health service providers, and institutions. It also seeks inputs from the public, including friends or family members of students affected by suicide, alumni, and other concerned citizens.

The online questionnaires, available in English and Hindi, aim to collect information on campus environment, inclusivity, sources of distress and discrimination, existing support systems and grievance redressal mechanisms, and suggestions for improving student wellbeing.

A bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan formed the task force in March this year after the increase in the number of student suicides. The top court had said that the task force, constituted under the Ministry of Education and comprising 10 members, will be asked to determine the root causes of student suicides.
