With litigation and regulation still a major part of the property-casualty insurance business, a national law firm and a state regulator have named attorneys to leadership roles.

Marshall Dennehey, with offices in seven Eastern U.S. states, announced that Florida-based insurance defense attorney Michael Packer was elected to the firm’s board of directors at its annual shareholder meeting in December.
Packer, managing attorney for the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office, has been with Marshall Dennehey for almost 20 years. He is co-chair of its insurance services practice group, representing some of the largest insurance carriers in Florida. Packer is a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and of the University of Miami School of Law.
In Tennessee, the state Department of Commerce and Insurance named Rebekah Parkhurst general counsel for the department.

Parkhurst will be the chief legal advisor for the department, overseeing legal services to all TDCI divisions, the department announced. She has some 20 years of experience in state government legal matters, including time as an assistant state attorney general and as deputy general counsel with the Department of Human Services.
Parkhurst earned her law degree from Appalachian School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from Marshall University. She replaced previous TDCI General Counsel Michael Driver who moved to the private sector after 17 years in state government work.
