Rainbow Children’s Hospital has launched an exclusive ‘Advanced Pediatric Gastro & Liver Centre’ in Chennai, responding to the rising incidence of gut and liver disorders among children in urban India.

Constipation, reflux, early-onset inflammatory bowel disease, and metabolic liver conditions, often linked to processed diets and sedentary lifestyles, are increasingly presenting in outpatient clinics. Addressing this, the new centre brings together advanced diagnostics, a dedicated paediatric endoscopy suite, and a multidisciplinary team of gastroenterologists, hepatologists, transplant specialists, anesthesiologists, and trained endoscopy technicians.

“At a time when nearly one in five urban children is overweight and early signs of fatty liver disease are becoming common, early evaluation by trained paediatric specialists has become essential,” said Somashekara H.R., senior consultant, Paediatric Hepatology & Liver Transplantation. He noted a steady rise in chronic constipation and reflux among children in Chennai.

Keerthivasan S., consultant, Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology, said the dedicated endoscopic suite would support both routine and emergency procedures, ensuring precision and safety tailored to children’s needs.

According to Bhaskar Reddy, zonal director, T.N. & A.P., the new centre builds on Rainbow’s experience in paediatric liver transplantation and strengthens its comprehensive gastro-liver services. The facility was inaugurated by J. Radhakrishnan, I.A.S., additional chief secretary, CMD, Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited.
