Renshaw returns for Australia’s dead-rubber game against Oman

Toss Australia opt to bowl vs Oman

Mitchell Marsh, the Australia captain, won the toss and elected to field in their final game of the 2026 T20 World Cup against Oman. There was no place for Steven Smith with Australia making just one change to the playing XI, bringing in Matt Renshaw for allrounder Cooper Connolly

“Fresh wicket and hopefully we bowl well,” Marsh said at the toss. “We certainly respect the noise from back home. We knew that was coming. We will reflect on ways to get better. This is a really disappointed group, but today is a World Cup game for Australia and we want to do well.”

Oman, meanwhile, made wholesale changes to their XI, four of them to be precise. “All those who did not play the previous game are playing tonight,” captain Jatinder Singh said. He also added that he wanted to bat so the toss is a good result for Oman.

There is a small smattering of clouds overhead, but nothing threatening as of now. It has been an unfamiliar campaign for Australia, for whom nothing has gone right since their 67-run win against Ireland. They were handed a 23-run defeat by Zimbabwe in Colombo before going down convincingly against Sri Lanka by eight wickets in Pallekele. A washout between Zimbabwe and Ireland sealed Australia’s fate.

Oman, on the other hand, have suffered three big defeats. They lost to Zimbabwe by eight wickets in their opening game before being handed a 105-run defeat against Sri Lanka and by 96 runs against Ireland.
