The Exchange conference is imminent, kicking off March 15th at the Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas. In advance of the conference, VettaFi Head of Research Todd Rosenbluth interviewed SS&C ALPS Advisors Head of Fund Sales and Strategy Paul Baoicchi.
Baoicchi to Return to Exchange Stage
Baoicchi will be returning to the stage to discuss energy infrastructure. “Energy infrastructure is often a misunderstood segment of the market,” Baoicchi said. There are many reasons for the widespread misunderstanding about energy infrastructure. Baoicchi noted that, for many investors, they think about it exclusively as tethered to MLPs, which isn’t the full story. Additionally, it is a market that has changed substantially over time. Some investors might have their views impacted by how the energy infrastructure space used to be rather than how it currently operates.
He added, “what we’ve seen really over the course of the past six or seven years is an evolution, fundamentally – certainly an evolution of their customer base, which has become more diverse than it’s ever been.”
Exchange Offers Opportunities
One thing Baoicchi is looking forward to at Exchange is the ability to discuss energy infrastructure further. “It’s an opportunity for us to tell the story of a segment of the market that a lot of people don’t have exposure to and really, in many ways has a lot of portfolio construction applications,” he noted.
The other big opportunity in Exchange, according to Baoicchi, is the unique opportunity to get together with people live. “In this world post-Covid, where there’s remote work, there’s hybrid work, you start to really value that in-person interaction,” he said, noting that he appreciated the ability “to be able to read people’s body language, to interact with them in a different way, not across a zoom meeting.”
