STORY: Samsung could give Google a major boost in the AI race.The South Korean firm’s co-CEO said Monday (January 5) it plans to double the number of its mobile devices with “Galaxy AI” features this year.And it will largely be powered by Google’s Gemini.Samsung already rolled out Gemini-backed AI features to about 400 million products by last year.It now plans to raise that figure to 800 million over the next 12 months.The company’s co-CEO T M Roh told Reuters previously Samsung will apply AI to all products and services as quickly as possible.Samsung is the world’s largest supporter of Google’s Android mobile platform.Its latest plan helps Google in its race with OpenAI and others to attract more consumers to their AI model.One leading researcher said Samsung will offer integrated AI services across consumer products to widen its lead over Apple in such features.Google launched the latest version of Gemini in November.It showed Gemini 3’s led on several popular industry measures of AI model performance.Samsung shares ended up 7.5% on Monday.Investors bought in as it’s thought the company is due to reveal a profit jump for the fourth quarter later this week.
