SBLI (Woburn, Mass.) has implemented Swiss Re’s CARE (Claims Automated Rules Engine) to streamline its life insurance claims process and enhance decision-making speed, accuracy, and transparency.

Developed by Swiss Re (Zurich), a prominent global provider of reinsurance and insurance-based risk solutions, CARE supports intelligent, risk-based claims assessments through configurable automation. The engine enables insurers to deliver faster, auditable claim outcomes.

SBLI integrates CARE alongside Swiss Re’s Automated Claims Experience (ACE), which currently helps settle many claims in fewer than 10 days. In straightforward cases, such as verified claims under $100,000, payouts may be completed in as little as one day.

“For over a century, policyholders have trusted SBLI to fulfill the promises they’ve made to their loved ones,” says Rose Conneely, COO, SBLI. “With the addition of the CARE engine, we can make the claims process faster and more transparent, giving our team greater confidence in supporting beneficiaries during difficult times and ensuring we uphold those promises.”

CARE expands SBLI’s claims capabilities by offering real-time decision guidance and automation to:

  • Support faster, more accurate assessments
  • Increase capacity without adding process complexity
  • Deliver a seamless, simplified experience for claimants and their families

“Swiss Re’s CARE engine is designed to help insurers deliver fast, consistent outcomes for their policyholders’ beneficiaries, especially at one of life’s most critical moments,” comments Timothy Quick, head of global product development for Life & Health Claims Solutions, Swiss Re. “We’re proud to support SBLI’s continued investment in innovative, customer-first, simplified service.”
