St. Louis faces more severe storm threats Monday and Tuesday, after hit from tornado

St. Louis faces another possible round of severe weather Monday, just days after a tornado tore from Clayton to Edwardsville on Friday, toppling trees and buildings, and claiming five lives in the area.

Thunderstorms late Monday could potentially bring “all hazards” back to the St. Louis region, including large hail, damaging wind and more, the National Weather Service warned.

“A strong tornado can’t be ruled out, and a limited flooding threat also exists,” the agency’s local forecast office said in an online summary.

The likelihood of severe storms is lower Monday in St. Louis than in other parts of the state, with the greatest risks in central and northeast Missouri. For example, areas west of Washington have an “enhanced” chance of experiencing severe storms, compared to a “slight” chance across the metro area, based on the outlook from the NWS.

The window for severe thunderstorms stretches from late afternoon through the night, with the best chances after 6 p.m., the NWS said.

Another chance of severe thunderstorms also awaits on Tuesday afternoon, when a cold front is posed to move through the area.
