‘These American kids are ready to rock’: TJ Oshie reflects on his Olympic moment, Team USA in 2026

“It’s fun reliving those moments, getting those feelings and also I’m still learning how many people were watching the game in bars at like 6 a.m.,” Oshie said.
MILAN, Italy — St. Louis Blues. Olympics. Those two things said simultaneously conjure up visions of one man… TJ Oshie.
The Minnesota kid became a United States Olympic legend in 2014 with four shootout goals to beat host Russia. Oshie got the moniker “TJ Sochi” and the moment still lives with him.
“It’s fun reliving those moments, getting those feelings and also I’m still learning how many people were watching the game in bars at like 6 a.m. Personally as someone who likes watching sports I’d love to be in the bar at 6 a.m. Especially after a big W. It’s great. It’s always fun reliving those moments, one of the proudest moments of my hockey career,” Oshie said.
After a 16-year NHL career capped off with a Stanley Cup win with the Washington Capitals, Oshie is now on the other side of the ice.
He’s an analyst for NBC, and is quite high on the 2026 US Olympic team.
“And I don’t think you can deny the hunger. If anyone watched the four nations… these American kids are ready to rock. It’s going to be so good for USA hockey and the country in general to have the hockey team right there and come in as one of the favorites,” Oshie said.
As usual, team Canada stands in the way of gold for the Americans. And Oshie expects the rivalry to be as fierce as ever in Milan.
“It’s so good. And when it comes to Olympic hockey in a way it’s like David and Goliath because Canada’s been so good. We haven’t been able to keep up with their skill level. They’ve had all the top players it seems like. And now finally it seems like the U.S. is there. On paper I think we’re there,” Oshie said.
