Thousands lose power across Northern California amid snowstorm

Storm causes tens of thousands to lose power across Northern California

BACK WITH THE EXTENDED FORECAST IN A FEW MINUTES. THANK YOU. WE’LL CHECK BACK IN WITH YOU. CREWS HAVE BEEN RESPONDING TO DOWNED TREES. LOOK AT THIS. THIS ONE CAME DOWN EARLY ON MILLERTOWN ROAD IN AUBURN. IT’S A PRETTY BIG ONE. AND OFFICIALS SAY TO STAY AWAY. CALL 911. IF A TREE FALLS ONTO POWER LINES. IT LOOKS LIKE THAT ONE. HIT SOME POWER LINES. WE ARE SEEING SOME POWER OUTAGES RIGHT NOW IN NEVADA COUNTY. PG&E POWER OUTAGE MAP SHOWS ABOUT 4000 HOMES AND BUSINESSES WITHOUT POWER. SOME AREAS COULD GET POWER RESTORED AS SOON AS 7:00 TONIGHT. HOPEFULLY. BUT YEAH, YOU SAW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THOSE TREES COME DOWN. OR LIKE THE TREE THAT WE SAW THAT MARICELA CAUGHT ON LIVE TRACKER THREE. KCRA 3 CECIL HANNIBAL IS CHECKING OUT THE STORM’S IMPACTS IN NEVADA COUNTY. HE IS LIVE IN GRASS VALLEY. WITH A LOOK THERE. YEAH, LISA, THEY ARE MAKING PROGRESS. WE JUST TALKED TO PG&E. THEY SAY THROUGHOUT THE DAY THERE’S BEEN 11,000 OUTAGES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. AND ANOTHER DOWNED TREE RIGHT HERE ON WHITING STREET IN GRASS VALLEY. YOU CAN SEE THIS AS FAR AS WE WERE ABLE TO GET, BECAUSE CREWS ARE WORKING TO CUT DOWN WHAT IS LEFT OF THIS TREE. WE JUST TALKED TO A WOMAN WHO WORKS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT TREE. SHE CAME TO CHECK ON HER BUILDING. MY PHOTOGRAPHER PAN ALL THE WAY UP. SHE SAYS THAT TREE RIGHT THERE WAS AS TALL AS THE ONE RIGHT NEXT TO IT. WHEN THE DAY STARTED. SO A VERY LARGE TREE CAME DOWN AND HIT POWER LINES. I HAVE MY PHOTOGRAPHER PAN TO THE LEFT OVER HERE, WHERE YOU CAN SEE CREWS ARE WORKING ON THE POWER LINES. THEY’VE BEEN GOING UP AND DOWN, WORKING ON THE POWER POLE. THE LINES ON THAT SIDE OF THE STREET. BUT GUYS, AT LAST CHECK. PG&E SAYS THEY WERE PREPARED FOR THIS. THEY HAD CREWS OUT HERE. THEY SAID THIS CREW IS GOING TO BE OUT FOR QUITE SOME TIME TRYING TO FIX THINGS IN THIS AREA. AND THIS IS IN GRASS VALLEY. OF COURSE, THEY SAY THE MAJORITY OF THOSE OUTAGES ARE SOUTH OF GRASS VALLEY, BUT ALSO EAST AND NORTHEAST OF NEVADA CITY. NOW THERE’S ALSO A POWER POLE DOWN NEAR QUAKER HILL ROAD IN NEVADA CITY. SO IF YOU’RE IN THAT AREA, AVOID IT BECAUSE CREWS ARE WORKING THERE AS WELL. THESE ARE THE TWO PLACES THAT PG&E SAYS THEY’RE WORKING RIGHT NOW IN NEVADA COUNTY. AGAIN, AT ONE POINT TODAY, THEY’VE SEEN UP TO 11,000 OUTAGES AT LAST. CHECK, GUYS, THAT NUMBER, LIKE YOU SAID, AROUND 4000 TO 5000. SO THEY ARE MAKING PROGRESS. BUT THEY’RE TELLING PEOPLE. A MAJORITY OF CUSTOMERS SHOULD HAVE RESTORATION BEFORE THE NIGHT’S OVER, BUT CREWS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO DO THE WORK FIRST. THAT’S WHAT THEY’RE OUT HERE DOING RIGHT NOW, WORKING TO CUT DOWN THIS TREE RIGHT HERE. AGAIN, WE’RE ON A WINDING STREET, SO IF YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS AREA IN GRASS VALLEY, YOU CAN SEE FOR YOURSELF. DO NOT ENTER SIGN. YOU CANNOT GO ANY FURTHER. WE’RE GOING TO KEEP MONITORING THINGS OUT HERE AS CREWS WORK TO GET THIS TREE DOWN AND WORK TO RESTORE
