VB Spine to acquire xvision Spine System from Augmedics

VB Spine has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Augmedics’ xvision Spine System to add augmented reality (AR) navigation to its enhanced visualisation offerings.

The transaction, subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, is anticipated to conclude in the coming weeks.

The xvision Spine System integrates navigation benefits with the accessibility of open surgery, allowing direct patient visualisation, workflow efficiency, improved accuracy, and reduced radiation exposure.

Nearly 13,000 patients have so far been treated using the platform. This acquisition will combine two portfolios that focus on advancing spine care solutions.

The transaction forms a key part of VB Spine’s broader enhanced visualisation technology strategy and follows its recent acquisition of the SpineHawk intraoperative spinal visualisation platform from Robotron Surgical Technologies.

VB Spine co-CEO Marc Viscogliosi said: “We have long admired the xvision technology and potential of the platform. We believe that with our implant integration and scale, we have the ability to harness the true potential of AR navigation.

“Combined with the SpineHawk platform, this expands our existing spine solutions and supports our long-term roadmap to redefine spine care with differentiated technologies.”

Augmedics president and CEO Paul Ziegler said: “This agreement strengthens our competitive advantage as an augmented reality innovation engine as we turn our focus to expanding our reach into adjacent surgical indications.”

Following approval and completion of the transaction, both companies intend to cooperate to ensure a seamless transition for existing customers.

The xvision Spine System and its software have received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US for assisting in the accurate identification of anatomical structures during open, minimally invasive, or percutaneous spinal procedures.

Earlier this year, VB Spine agreed to acquire the SpineHawk intraoperative spinal visualisation platform from Robotron Surgical Technologies.

“VB Spine to acquire xvision Spine System from Augmedics” was originally created and published by Hospital Management, a GlobalData owned brand.
