Waymo Begins Robotaxi Service in Miami

This article first appeared on GuruFocus.

Waymo is starting robotaxi service in Miami, widening the commercial footprint of Alphabet’s autonomous vehicle unit as it keeps adding cities through the Waymo One model. The service will initially be available across a 60-square-mile area, covering neighborhoods such as the Design District, Wynwood, and Coral Gables. Waymo confirmed that nearly 10,000 residents had already joined a waitlist for the service.

Beyond residential streets, the company is conducting testing at Miami International Airport, with any future passenger service there planned for a later stage. Airports are a meaningful step up in difficulty versus typical city geofences because pickup zones are dense, traffic patternsare irregular, and driver behavior can be unpredictable. This expansion follows a record 2025 in which the unit provided more than 14 million trips.

While competition from Tesla’s (NASDAQ:TSLA) upcoming Cybercab production remains a point of analyst discussion, Waymo is continuing to expand its robotaxi service into new markets.

Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) shares were up 1.08% at $331.94 intraday.
