What is ‘Resist and Unsubscribe’? Why are people boycotting Google, X?

Feb. 13, 2026, 5:03 a.m. ET

  • A boycott called “Resist and Unsubscribe” targets major tech companies to protest U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.
  • Companies on the boycott list include Amazon, Google, Apple, and Meta, as well as firms identified as “active enablers of ICE.”
  • Participants are encouraged to unsubscribe from services, delete apps, and share their actions on social media.

As political tensions in the U.S. continue to fluctuate, some consumers are boycotting “big tech” in an attempt to get a message through to politicians.

The “Resist and Unsubscribe” boycott was begun by Scott Galloway with the intention of resisting ongoing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement operations, including controversial operations in Minnesota which sparked countrywide protests after federal agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens in January.

On the official website of the boycott, ResistandUnsubscribe.com, specific actions on how to contribute to the movement are suggested. Among these actions are posts on social media; Galloway suggests checking his instagram story at @profgalloway, using the “Add Yours” sticker to share how you’ve resisted, adding hashtags “#resistandunsubscribe” and “#resistICE,” tagging Galloway to allow him to share and spreading news of the boycott to friends.

Here’s what else to know about the most recent boycott including the companies on Resist and Unsubscribe’s list, steps to take and more.

What is ‘Resist and Unsubscribe’? Why are people boycotting Amazon, Google, Netflix?

The official website of the organization at ResistandUnsubscribe.com provides a rundown on the aim of the boycott, pointing towards the economy as the “one thing” capable of fazing President Donald Trump.

“The most potent weapon to resist the administration is a targeted, month-long national economic strike — a coordinated campaign that attacks tech companies and firms enabling ICE — to inflict maximum damage with minimal impact on consumers,” Galloway wrote.

The website includes two lists, one of “subscription-driven consumer tech companies” identified by founders as having “outsized influence over the national economy and our president,” and another of consumer-facing companies identified by the organization as “active enablers of ICE.”

Suggested actions to take are also listed on the website, including steps such as unsubscribing from brands on social media, deleting apps, avoiding interaction with ads and more.

What is on the ‘Resist and Unsubscribe’ boycott list?

The primary list of “subscription-driven consumer tech companies” identified by founders as having “outsized influence over the national economy and our president” includes Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Paramount+, Meta, Uber, Netflix, OpenAI and X (formerly Twitter).

The list of consumer-facing companies identified by the organization as “active enablers of ICE” includes AT&T, Comcast, Charter Communications, including Spectrum internet/cable, Dell, FedEx, Lowe’s and The Home Depot, Marriott and UPS.

Galloway also published a list of the actions he has personally taken so far on the website, including:

  • Unsubscribed from Amazon Prime
  • Unsubscribed from Uber
  • Rejected ad sponsorship from Apple for February
  • Unsubscribed from Apple TV+
  • Unsubscribed from Amazon One
