Australia’s Woodside Energy has agreed to supply one million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Malaysian multinational oil and gas company Petronas.
The non-binding heads of agreement (HoA) outlines the annual supply of LNG for a period of 15 years from 2028.
The LNG is set to be sourced from Woodside’s global portfolio, potentially including the recently approved Louisiana LNG project in the US.
Woodside executive vice-president and chief commercial officer Mark Abbotsford said: “This agreement marks the beginning of a new era of collaboration between Woodside and Petronas and is an important step towards what would be our first long-term LNG sales to Malaysia. It reflects the value global buyers see in Woodside’s Louisiana LNG project and our reputation as a safe and a reliable supplier of energy to Asia.”
The agreement is set to bolster Petronas’ efforts to secure a stable and flexible supply of LNG to satisfy increasing demand in Peninsular Malaysia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
Both companies now working to convert the HoA into a sales and purchase agreement.
Petronas LNG Marketing & Trading vice-president Shamsairi Ibrahim added: “We are pleased to launch our new collaboration with Woodside, a leading supplier of LNG to Asia. We hope this will be the start of cooperation between Petronas and Woodside on future opportunities to support energy security and sustainability across the region.”
Petronas seeks to safeguard and manage Malaysia’s hydrocarbon resources. The company is planning to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
In April 2025, Woodside signed deals with Uniper to supply one million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG from Louisiana and up to 1mtpa from its worldwide portfolio, Woodside Energy Trading Singapore.
“Woodside signs 15-year LNG supply agreement with Petronas” was originally created and published by Offshore Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
