Chinese AI stocks came roaring back Thursday as fresh model upgrades and supportive policy signals reignited momentum across the sector.

Zhipu AI, often referred to in markets as Knowledge Atlas Technology, surged 30% after unveiling its new GLM 5 open source model. The Beijing based company is led by CEO Zhang Peng, who has positioned Zhipu as one of China’s leading OpenAI challengers. The firm said GLM 5 improves coding performance and long running agent tasks, with benchmarks reportedly approaching Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.5 and outperforming Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Gemini 3 Pro on select tests.

MiniMax also rallied 11% after launching its M2.5 open source model with stronger agent capabilities.
