Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMBA) reported fiscal second-quarter 2027 revenue of $108.1 million, up 13.2% from $95.5 million a year earlier. Management said edge-AI revenue reached a record, supported by sequential growth across automotive and Internet of Things markets and strong growth from the 5-nanometer CV75 and CV72 systems-on-chip.
Profitability presented a more complicated picture. GAAP gross margin declined to 57.7% from 58.9%, while company-defined non-GAAP gross margin, which excludes stock-based compensation and acquisition-related costs, fell to 59.3% from 60.5%. Company-defined non-GAAP net income, which excludes stock-based compensation, acquisition-related costs, and the $9.0 million project-termination credit and adjusts for related tax effects, increased to $8.2 million from $6.4 million. The credit resulted from the release of a deposit liability after a development project was terminated.
Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMBA) also entered seven-year agreements with technical distributor Macnica and engineering and systems-integration firm Capgemini to develop an indirect sales channel. The strategic question is whether broader market access and a growing edge-AI portfolio can produce enough scale to reverse margin compression.
Bull Case
Third-quarter guidance calls for revenue of $115 million to $124 million, representing continued sequential growth across the range. Company-defined non-GAAP gross margin is expected to be 59.0% to 60.0%, suggesting that the recent decline could begin stabilizing if product mix improves.
The agreements expand Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMBA)’s existing indirect-channel strategy. Macnica adds distribution, technical enablement and ecosystem-development capabilities across the Americas and EMEA. Capgemini can support global engineering, systems integration and enterprise deployments across smart infrastructure, retail and logistics, industrial automation, healthcare and automotive.
Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMBA) also introduced the X7, its first stand-alone AI accelerator. Combined with an installed base exceeding 50 million AI system-on-chip units, the broader product portfolio gives Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMBA) multiple routes to benefit from edge-AI adoption.
Liquidity provides room to fund that expansion, with cash, cash equivalents and marketable debt securities totaling $272.3 million at quarter-end.
Bear Case
Revenue growth has not yet translated into gross-margin expansion. Both reported gross-margin measures declined by 1.2 percentage points year over year, and the upper end of third-quarter non-GAAP gross-margin guidance remains below the prior-year second-quarter result.
